Regional Policies and Priorities

The essence of regional policy is that it applies only to certain areas within a country. From: International Encyclopedia of Human Geography, 2009.

When regional policy first became a major issue in the advanced economies in the 1960s, it was strongly influenced by theories of polarized growth which were prevalent at that time, and which argued for the concentration of new developments in what was hoped would become self-sustaining growth poles or centers.
